Welcome to Chisholm KIDS PLUS!
What is KIDS PLUS?
This program was established by the Northland Foundation to
improve the well being of children and youth. Through KIDS PLUS,
local citizens - youth and adults from all sectors - work together to
make their communities better places for children and youth to live
and grow. KIDS PLUS serves as a catalyst to create new opportunities
for children and youth; to strengthen relationships across all ages;
to shift community perception to view youth as contributors and
valuable resources.
The Vision...
To develop a comprehensive program that will create an
environment where a child can build a positive healthy lifestyle with
peers, parents, school, and community.
The Mission...
To Provide opportunities to support pro-social behaviors, positive
relationships with adults, positive role models, and parent school,
and community involvement.
Goals...
1.
Mentoring
1. The program consists of two components: Adults mentoring to students in K-12 and high school students - grades 10-12 matched with K-6 students as friendship mentors.
2. Positive Alternative Activities Provide opportunities to develop and reinforce alternative behaviors that are positive and healthy substitutes for high risk behavior.
3. Volunteer ProgramProvide meaningful involvement in the community through pro- social activities, problem solving, decision making, and positive relationships and services with community members.
4. Parent/Community Programs
Provide opportunities for parent/guardians to develop or improve their parenting skills and encourage a health parent/youth relationship.
5. School Based Prevention
Promote positive peer relationships starting with grades 6-8, in addition to anti-drug resistance training, and intervention programs.
